As California is facing a significant water crisis, it is critical that we work together to conserve our diminishing water resources.  The effects of this drought can be reduced by practicing smart water  usage.  Researchers at UC Davis estimate that millions of gallons of water are wasted each year in landscapes alone.  Water is too precious a resource to let it run down the storm drain.  The good news is you can make a big difference at very little cost.  New efficient irrigation equipment is available that can reduce your landscape water consumption by up to 75%.  Cutting down on lawn size and planting drought tolerant native and Mediterranean plant material is another way to save water and beautify your landscape at the same time.  By doing these things you will be taking a big step towards ensuring that California will remain a sustainable and beautiful place to live.
